GDRFA Outlines Visa-on-Arrival Rules for Select Foreign Residents

The General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA Dubai) has detailed the updated requirements for its conditional visa-on-arrival service catering to eligible foreign residents living outside their home countries.

Under the framework, qualifying travelers can secure an entry visa on arrival for either 14 days or 60 days, providing increased flexibility for tourist and short-term visits.

Eligible Nationalities & Approved Residency Permits

The scheme applies to passport holders from seven designated countries:

• Eligible Nationalities: India, Indonesia, Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines, Kenya, and South Africa (including their accompanying family members).

To qualify for the facility, applicants must hold an ordinary passport and possess a valid residence permit or visa issued by one of the following recognized jurisdictions:

• United States
• United Kingdom
• Any European Union (EU) member state
• Canada
• Australia
• New Zealand
• Japan
• South Korea
• Singapore

Visa Durations, Fees, and Extension Terms

Applicants can choose between two entry options depending on their travel duration:

Application & Processing Protocol

To streamline entry procedures, applications can be completed 24/7 through GDRFA Dubai’s official digital channels, including its online portal and smart mobile application.

Required Documents:

1. A clear passport-style color photograph with a white background.
2. An ordinary passport valid for at least six months from the date of entry.
3. A valid, verifiable residence permit or visa from one of the approved jurisdictions.

Once submitted via GDRFA’s smart services platform and fees are paid, processing is completed within 48 hours, with the approved visa delivered directly to the applicant’s registered email address.

GDRFA Dubai noted that the service aligns with the UAE’s broader strategy to enhance travel convenience, support economic and tourism growth, and streamline immigration operations. The initiative has seen strong adoption, with 73,551 visas issued under the scheme during the first half of 2026.
